Research: Soap, toilet tissue and my daily bread!

I have just a couple of days left before I really embark on my plastic-free adventure, but it's never too soon to get on with a little research. Fail to plan, plan to fail (as Shakespeare probably didn't say). Plus I was out of soap and down to my last roll of toilet tissue this morning, so I figured today would be a good opportunity to start casting my eye around for plastic-free products.

In truth; both soap and loo roll are two items that have been concerning me, as both are unquestionably essential items and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw either of them bound up in anything that wasn't shiny cellophane. I had a feeling that one of the big toilet tissue brands used to do small packs wrapped in paper, but I can't remember seeing them recently, so I set out today in search of viable plastic-free solutions.

I didn't have to worry too much in the end, as Canterbury Wholefoods has been able to provide solutions for both of these necessities! Bars of delicious-smelling soap are available to buy loose or some simply packaged in a cardboard box. Plus they stock a range of recycled toilet tissue and kitchen paper packaged in biodegradable plant-based wrapping!

I have also invested in some more strong bread flour, as finding bread that doesn't come wrapped in plastic is likely to be a lot more tiresome and expensive than just baking it myself. I've never had much luck with bread, but I enjoy baking and I guess this is as good an opportunity as any to start practising!
